Program Management

Program Management (PgM) is often misinterpreted as being Management of large projects. In fact PgM is a very different discipline.

A program’s mission is to deliver benefits or values aligned with an organization’s strategic goals, these are rarely as clearly defined as ‘deliverables’ would be within a project. The role of program management is to understand goals and then create and manage a sequence of projects or organizational changes to ensure the desired benefits are realized.

Examples of a program might include:

• Integration or separation of a business or business unit
• Scaling of production capacity efficiently to meet future market demands
• Development of a new product
